Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of chronic diseases on the quality of life of patients, comprehend the psychological implications of these diseases, and review the literature.

Materials and methods: Narrative review using PubMed, Google Scholar, Embase, ScienceDirect Medline (2014–2024) BMC database and Cochrane Library with search terms included chronic diseases, psychological impact, quality of sleep and life, psychological distress. After screening, 32 of the studies were included.

Results and discussion: Depression, anxiety, insomnia, and social isolation frequently coexist with chronic disease. These emotional tolls may contribute to physical symptoms while diminishing the effectiveness of treatment.

Conclusion: Providing psychological support is important in the management of chronic disease. Tailoring interventions can improve patients' quality of life and should be considered in research and public health initiatives.
